Terms of Service

These terms explain how you can use Svair products and what you can expect from us in return.

We wrote them for people, not lawyers. If a sentence isn't clear, write to hello@svair.org. We'd rather explain it than hide behind it.

Your account

Tethr and Authr are invite only, and neither has passwords to forget, reuse or leak. Tethr signs you in with your phone number and a six-digit code from an authenticator app. Authr uses a passkey (your device's fingerprint, face or screen lock) or the same kind of code.

That makes your devices the key. Keep them locked. If you lose your phone, Tethr's recovery codes get you back in. On Authr, let a new device in from another one where you're still signed in. If there isn't one, write to us. We'll check it's really you, usually by calling the number on your account, before we reset your sign-in.

You're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has got in, tell us at hello@svair.org straight away.

Use it responsibly

Use Svair for lawful work. Don't use it to harm people, send spam, break into systems or publish illegal content.

If you do, we may suspend or remove your account. We'll usually tell you first. In serious cases we'll act first and explain after.

On Authr, readers can report a public book. If one breaks these terms, we can set it to Only me: it stops being public, and nothing in it is deleted.

Everyone shares one Authr

Authr is one service that every writer shares, at authr.svair.org. You don't get a copy of your own: public books from every writer sit in one library, and we look after all of it. Our Security page explains how your drafts stay yours.

Beta

Both products are in beta. They work and people already use them, but they change faster than they will later. Now and then something will look different from yesterday.

Paying

Tethr is paid, and your first month is free. Authr is free for your first three books.

We agree the price with you directly, before you pay anything. If your price is ever going to change, you'll hear it from us before it does.

Leaving

You can leave whenever you like. There's no fee and nobody will try to talk you out of it. The Cancellation Policy explains what happens to your work.

Your content

What you create belongs to you. We don't claim any of it. Our job is to keep it safe and available until you decide otherwise.

Our software

No Svair source code is published publicly. If you depend on one of our products and want to read or run its source, ask and we'll share it.

How a product is distributed may change. Your access to your own work never depends on it.

Availability

We build software to last, but servers fail, bugs happen and networks go down. When something breaks, we'll fix it quickly and tell you honestly what happened.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Svair's liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law says can't be limited.

Privacy

Your use of Svair is also covered by our Privacy Policy.

Changes

These terms will change as Svair does. If a change matters, we'll tell you before it takes effect. If you don't agree with it, you're free to leave.

Terms are usually written to win arguments later.
